Miss World Somalia 2021 Khadija Omar in Kenya

Miss Word Somalia 2021 jetted into Kenya from Canada. The beauty queen will be holidaying in Kenya before she proceeds to Puerto Rico in March for the remainder of the Miss World 2021 competition.

20-year- old Khadija was born at a refugee camp in Kenya. She is a woman of firsts, the first Somali to represent Somalia in the Miss World pageant, and the first hijabi model at the pageant ever since its inception.

” I can’t believe I’m the first Miss World Somalia. Anyone who knows me, knows how long I’ve desired to compete in pageants and represent hijabi girls worldwide,” says Khadija.

“To see that dream come true is not short of an honour. I hope this inspires young hijabi girls and reminds them that they can dream as big as they aspire. I can’t wait to make history in Puerto Rico, show the world how beautiful Somalia is and make my country proud!”

While in Kenya, Khadija met yet another hijabi model making waves in African pageantry. Adar Yusuf won Miss University Africa crown, which was held in Abuja last year.

The two are the faces of the pageant revolution that is now cutting across the world, aiming to be more inclusive and appreciating beauty in all its forms.

Khadija met many other influential people, among them Pambazuka Entertainment’s Leakey Odera who also doubles up as the Miss University Kenya pageant and BAIP Kenya pageant national director.

She was also interviewed by renowned Kenyan human interest journalist, Lynn Ngugi.

She will spend sometime in the country as she awaits the second leg of Miss World 2021, which was cancelled after contestants and staff alike tested positive for Covid-19.
